FUEL SYSTEM: Now let's discuss the fuel system. As this diagram shows, the fuel pump pulls gasoline from the fuel tank and routes it through the fuel lines where it passes through one or more fuel filters before being delivered to the carburetor. The purpose of the carburetor is to take the fuel, mix it with air and send the resulting air-fuel mixture, via the intake manifold, to each individual cylinder to be burned. The charcoal canister, an emission control device, stores excessive fuel vapors from the fuel tank that would otherwise reach the atmosphere and sends them, at the proper time, to the combustion chambers to be burned. Periodic fuel system maintenance involves cleaning your carburetor, replacing the air filter, replacing the fuel filters and checking the choke for smooth operations.
